The development of scientific and technical progress has created a new and different world with new situations, systems, methods, ideas and values, which have led to readaptations and revisions in the relations among people. Within this framework, the field of communication has been subject to a strong and important influence which has changed its structure, orientation and targets. Through these changes new functions of communication were born. Among these functions we may observe the aim of public relations (P.R.) to develop mutual understanding and confidence among individuals and groups.
In the past numerous books were published on public relations addressed, however, to specific publics. The present edition follows a different approach; it provides help to those who have insufficient knowledge on the subject of P.R. by explaining its importance in the contemporary society.
This work was first published in Greek in 1970. The favorable impression it made on the public at that time, has led to this revised version in English, based on the 7th Greek edition (January 1993).
